Saturday, October 18 – TRANSFERRING THE LEGACY TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: “And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” (II Timothy 3:15) Do you understand the solemn obligation you have as a Christian parent to transfer the legacy to your children? As they spend more and more time away from you, there will be many false teachers in the form of friends, professors, media, etc. to grab for their attention and their allegiance. Deception can come in many styles because Satan often masquerades as an angel of light. He causes lies to come so close to the truth that unless one is grounded in the Word of God that person can easily be deceived. First of all, the Holy Spirit through the Scriptures is what leads to the truth of Jesus, and so to salvation. When a child is young his heart is tender and more willing to receive the message of the gospel, rather than later when the world has battered and bruised him. Now supposing you do not have children; the Lord provides opportunity daily for you to witness of His grace and love to children and adults alike, so why not proclaim the Good News to anyone who has need of it. We should never neglect the Word of God, no matter what our age, but a child is usually more open to its teachings. And what a legacy to leave posterity! Jesus spent so much time with His timid twelve trainees, and all except one later proved worthy of their training. When the Word soaks into someone it develops in that person a man or woman of character. It molds them and makes them into the image of Christ. And the profitability of it is far reaching. It reproves, corrects, teaches and trains in righteousness. This makes the man of God adequate to meet the requirements of being God’s servant, and equips him for every good work (II Timothy 3:16-17). Before we can transfer this to others, however, we must have it ingrained in our own person. Paul recognized Timothy’s heritage in that his mother and grandmother had taken their solid faith and passed it on to him (II Timothy 1:5). Are you doing that with your children? When we look at the multiplication of disciples that first began with the little band that Jesus chose, we marvel how God used them and that method to reach the entire world. And He chooses to use you today, dear believer, to further His Kingdom. “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-7) Today’s Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that You are always faithful. Keep me faithful to cling to Your Word and to pass on the great legacy. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Memorize and meditate on II Timothy 3:15 |
