Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
College Extension Course Offerings

Work Toward Your College or Master’s Degree in Ministry or Biblical Studies!

Beginning Fall 2007, First Family Church began partnering with Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City to offer both Undergraduate and Graduate-Level, fully-accredited theological education.

Since this venture began, approximately 100 have enrolled for one or more classes at our Overland Park Extension Bible College and Seminary at First Fami Church.

Fall Classes and Various Dates You Can Begin Taking A Course

There are three different “start dates” for those interested in taking a course from us this semester.
Three of our classes begin Monday, September 8.  Another begins Monday, October 13, and still another begins November 17.  So whenever you get a chance this fall to enroll in a class that interests you, you may do just that.

You can find more information on enrollment by logging onto the web at: http://www.mbts.edu/admissions/index.html
You will get more specific help by contacting our Extension Office.  We’re here to help!

With the Fall Semester, we will be offering five courses from which to choose.  Keep reading to discover which is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your situation?

“I have completed a Bachelor’s degree, but not in Biblical Studies.”  Does that mean I should automatically take Master’s Level classes?

Not necessarily.  All of our classes are “formal education.”  In other words, these aren’t just sit-and-listen classes, but actual academic coursework that includes required readings, homework, and possibly even quizzes and exams!

“How do I decide whether to take the Graduate/Master’s or Undergraduate/Bachelor’s classes?”

If you have not completed a college degree, you should take one or more of the College courses being offered. Over time, you’ll build up lots of credits and can work toward an actual Bachelor of Arts degree.  We can’t cover all the details of that here, but you can get that information by contacting our Extension Office at 816.414.3700.

If you have already hold a college degree, you can take either Undergraduate or Graduate classes (any of the courses we are offering).  If you want interesting, challenging, stimulating, and high level biblical studies and ministry courses that take you far beyond a good Bible study environment, take our college classes.  If you want rigorous theological and biblical academic studies and can handle complex assignments, a significant reading load, and interacting with complex ideas, then seminary classes may be for you.  Learn more at: http://www.mbts.edu/academics/extension_classes.html.

What is an “Audit” and can I audit a class?

To audit a class means to take it “not for credit.”  Audited classes do not require students to complete academic coursework or take examinations and professors generally do not “grade” papers that may be turned in by such attendees.  Audited classes do not grant any academic credit toward a degree. They are for personal enrichment only—without accountability or requirements.  Audited classes are offered at a discount from the standard fee of taking the course “for credit.”

How much do classes cost?

Our current cost structure is found here: http://www.mbts.edu/admissions/tuition.html

Who is the faculty and where were they trained?

Faculty are listed at this link: http://www.mbts.edu/academics/meet_faculty.html
